Welcome everyone to June’s newsletter and like normal our club is very busy. In May we welcomed Jo Baylis to BPW Hawera and heard from our members Courtney Crowther, Celine Filbee and Jan Dunlop, what amazing lives you ladies have had so far!
Our Sileni Wine fundraiser finished on the 20th of May and I am happy to announce that we also had donations from Jan Dunlop, Dee McCrea and Meredith Pick. This gave us a total of $620.00 raised for our club; the wine will be available for collection at our June dinner meeting.
This month is Candle Lighting and we will be focusing on this ceremony. For those members who are new to Candle Lighting it is when we remember the formation of BPW and acknowledge all of our sisters around the globe. We will read letters from our BPWNZ President Hellen Swales and Dr. Amany Asfour our International President. Our sisters in Denver have sent the executive tee-shirts which we will wear at our ceremony. This is a wonderful part of BPW as we remember our unity and our collective aims which all BPW members have. I hope you all can be with us for this powerful and often moving ceremony.
Our Regional Meeting is the 29th of June in Gisborne and runs for one day, if you would like to attend then please let me know.
Please bring your old glasses to this meeting as Sheryl will be taking them to the regional meeting.
We will all be signing a card for our twinning sisters in Denver for their Jubilee this month. BPW Colorado's Centennial Jubilee, being held in Denver, on June 15th, 2019.
July’s Dinner meeting will be a bit different with our guest speaker being the Hon Tracey Martin; Minster for Children, Internal Affairs and Seniors. Tracey will be speaking about her personal journey as a woman in politics, her views on leadership and gender equality in a male dominated field. This dinner will be $40.00 per person and there will be spot prizes throughout the night. There will be more details around this event soon.
