Tēnā koutou katoa,
As per usual the months are flying by and now we come to one of our favourite dinner meetings, Candle lighting, where we celebrate in solidarity with our sisters across the world. While we celebrate this month, it will also be tinged with sadness as this will be our last official meeting at Tairoa Lodge. I know I speak for everyone when I say we have loved being at Tairoa and getting treated like queens by Linda and her team. So I encourage everyone to attend this month, not just for candle lighting but to say farewell and celebrate Linda and Tairoa. The executive after reviewing menus and prices have decided to try out the Hawera club for our August meeting which will hopefully become our new meeting venue. We will discuss this further with you at the July meeting. This month our scholarship also opens and you can find all the details on our website and links on the Facebook page. We will be hearing from our 2021 recipient, Catherine Trowbridge, on her studies at the July meeting. We will also be hearing from Kay Legge about our twinning celebration with Denver Colorado. Our wine fundraiser has now opened so share far and wide and get those orders in. Orders are due back on 18th July (next dinner meeting). Money raised from the fundraiser will go towards our women’s education scholarship. The executive have also started working on our main community event for the year, a celebration in September for Sufferage. Let us know if you are interested in helping out to plan and organize this event. Finally, I’d like to get expressions of interest at our July meeting from anyone who would like to help contribute to our welcome pack info for new members. This is a one-pager document about our club, with the template coming out of our membership taskforce. But really this is a document about our club and it would be great to have members outside the executive contribute. Hope you keep safe and well and look forward to seeing you on the 18th of July. Marissa's Message Tēnā koutou katoa,
Well how did it get to May already! We have had an unusual few months at BPW Hawera with the last two meetings cancelled and I am missing seeing all your faces each month! Hopefully COVID is on the curve downwards and we can all see you for our May meeting. Our theme this month is Mother’s Day and we wanted to acknowledge those special women in our lives who help us grow and develop into the people we are today. They might not necessarily be our biological mothers but sometimes they have supported us just as well or more so. So, with that in mind can you please bring along a photo of a special woman in your life to celebrate and share with each other. We will also have Natalie Tua from The Strength Shed (see below for details) as our speaker for the night so it should be an enlightening and affirming evening. Don’t forget to invite any friends or acquaintances to the meeting who you might think would enjoy the night, the food, the speaker or all three. The weekend prior to our meeting is the BPW NZ Conference in Gisborne from 13th to 15th of May. Rebecca, Toni and I will be traveling over to attend the conference and be delegates for BPW Hawera. However, we do need your help and guidance on resolutions that will be passed at conference, including a Pay Transparency Resolution put forward by Vicky Mee which we have been asked to support as a club. So PLEASE PLEASE can you review the resolutions that Rebecca has sent through. Provide any feedback to her ASAP and also advise what you are happy to support or not. This is also the time of year we catch up with our BPW Twin club – BPW Denver Colorado. Desiree will be setting up a zoom meeting with them and I encourage you all to attend and get to know these lovely ladies. As you are all aware Linda has placed Tairoa on the market and with uncertainty around our dinner meetings continuing there from later in the year we would also like to have a discussion of options in case we do not continue meeting at Tairoa Lodge. Can you all put your thinking caps on and bring ideas to the meeting. Next month we will be having a club dinner and as World Milk day is in June we are going to have a Dairy Women’s Panel featuring the many women in our club who work in Dairy in all it’s forms. I love hearing from our members when they are speakers, I always find out so much from them and about them which reinforces what a wonderful, interesting and inspiring mix of women we have in our club. See you on the 16th! Marissa Cope To view the full newsletter click here... Marissa's Message Tēnā koutou katoa,
Welcome to March all! As per usual the months are flying by and we are heading ever close to the Gisborne conference. Please let us know if you are interested in attending as an observe or delegate so that we can put our applications in ASAP. BPW Hawera will look to fund registrations for our observers and delegates. Whilst we are in Gisborne we will also be dropping off old prescription glasses which are collected and sent overseas by a Gisborne member so if you could please bring any in you have before May that would be appreciated. This month we will be discussing the resolutions for conference which you all should have received and I hope you have the time to review before our meeting. To celebrate International Women’s Day we will be also joined by Helen Swales via zoom to discuss her work with BPW International. Although we would love to see you all at the dinner meeting we recognise that with Omicron happening in our community this may be tricky for some so you will still be able to join via zoom for Helen’s session. We are keen to run an Easter raffle fundraiser to support our scholarship so if you could bring something in for the raffle that would be great. As my garden is pretty bountiful at the moment I am sure others are too so if you would like to bring in crop swap too that would be great. We are also seeking items for our gift packs for guests. This is a good way to advertise businesses and just needs to be simple, some examples in the past were seed tape or chocolate stapled to business cards, pens with logo or little notebooks etc. I look forward to seeing you all in person or virtually next week. Marissa's Message Tēnā koutou katoa, Welcome back to another awesome year for BPW. It was great to see so many people at our Christmas Party and we hope everyone enjoyed the change up with the grazing station and cocktails. We also hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year and are coping with the heat and humidity that seems to be much more than the last few years. Our executive met at the end of January for a planning meeting for the year and we are super excited at all that is planned for BPW Hawera. We asked people at the December meeting what you would all like more of or less of at BPW and the resounding answer was more club nights. Therefore, as you will see from our Calendar included in this newsletter we have aimed to include a mix of club nights, speakers and special events. This also gives opportunity for those on the Key’s to Achievement programme to participate, speak or facilitate sessions and sign off another of their goals. For our February meeting, besides our lovely speaker Belinda (see below), we are calling a special general meeting to pass our budget and go over financials. It is also Red Bag day – which symbolises our fight for equal pay for equal work, so bring your red bags or wear red for the night. A reminder that we have the next session of BPW Aotearoa coming up on the 17th February at 7:30pm. Many of you will remember Dr Joanna Breare when she came to speak at our club last year and she was fantastic. She is focusing on negotiations and difficult conversations, something I am sure we can all do with knowing more about in our lives. Remember to register before the session and PLEASE PLEASE send the info out to anyone you know who might like to attend this event. I look forward to seeing you all at the February meeting on 21st February and getting stuck into all things BPW for the year. To view the full newsletter click here... Marissa's Message Tēnā koutou katoa,
Welcome to my first newsletter as President of BPW Hawera. Can you believe it’s November already? We have had a great year at BPW Hawera, and I know there will be lots more inspiration, networking, fun, learning and exciting challenges ahead for us in the coming year. I would just like to acknowledge again all the work that Desiree has done for BPW Hawera over the last 3 years and all the support she has given and will give me as new President. I am also excited to work with our new executive team who bring a great mix of skills to continue to support us being the best club in NZ! I really like to work in a team and also ensure that our members have a voice and we are providing what they want out of the club and BPW. I hope you are all looking forward to our December dinner meeting which has been brought forward to the second Monday in December, the 13th. We will forward out a Flyer soon for our pre-Christmas dinner meeting, but our exciting night will feature cocktails, mocktail and of course yummy food and great company. Remember partners are welcome and we will also be holding another local business voucher Kris Kringle/present swap if you would like to participate. Our education scholarship has now closed, and we are interviewing applicants and hope to make the announcement of the successful candidate at the November Meeting. Submission of resolutions also closes on December 1st so if you would like to submit a resolution please get in touch ASAP. For our November meeting the theme is White Ribbon, standing up against violence towards women and we will be collecting for women’s refuge. They would appreciate petrol vouchers, children’s Christmas presents, and nonperishable food items if you would like to bring along a donation. Our exciting guest speaker for November Dinner is Justine Olckers, whose details are below, and I hope to see you all there. Please do not forget to RSVP to Rebecca who is the new Dinner Convener. See you on the 15th and if not have a great month! To view the full newsletter click here.... |
