Welcome to another year at BPW! It has already been a destructive start to the year weather wise and our thoughts go out to all our BPW clubs and members affected. We have sent messages out to them with our thoughts and Rebecca has shared options for us to contribute to support families and people that have lost so much if you wish. If there is anything I know however it is that New Zealanders are a resilient group who pull together when needed so I know like everything else that has been thrown at us over the last few years, people will rise out of this. Our executive met at the end of January for a planning meeting and we have another exciting year ahead. We will ensure we keep the calendar up to date with confirmed speakers but also please let us know if there are any exciting speakers or guests you would like us to contact. Keep your eye out for our High Tea at Tairoa information, to be held on Sunday 19th March. I know we will all be excited to head back to Tairoa and gather with our BPW team, family and friends. This month we welcome Mary Bourke to our meeting at the Hawera club who many of you will know from her time as Mayor. Mary will talk through her leadership journey and I am sure will have many interesting stories to share from her life. With BPW conference coming up at the end of April in Kaitaia we need to arrange for three delegates from our club to attend. There is some funding available for travel and we have a number of members interested in attending but please if you wish to go let us know ASAP before we confirm final attendees. We look forward to seeing you all again at the Hawera Club on Monday, where we will have a new caterer to try as well Don’t forget to bring your Red Bag for supporting equal pay day. Tena koto katoa,
Can anyone believe that Christmas is just around the corner? This month has flown by again but I would just like to start by thanking everyone for allowing myself and the returning executive to continue the privilege of being your BPW Hawera executive team. Also welcome to Anita Scott as our Vice President who is able to share her passion and knowledge of BPW with us and continue to drive to keep us the best club in NZ! At this month's meeting, we will be hearing from the team at Te Pae Pae o Aotea, the new intermediate/high school in town, run by our very own Rachel Williams. I know you will give them a warm welcome and please feel free to invite as many guests as you would like for dinner and the discussion session. As this month is White Ribbon Month, we will also be collecting again for Women’s refuge. They really appreciated our donations last year which included food, petrol and other vouchers, with toiletries for adults and children also appreciated. We will collect at the dinner meeting but you can also drop off items to Rebecca Treeby at the Vets. Following on from AGM, a small sub-committee met to review financials and budgets and you will be receiving correspondence soon on this for sign-off of these, so please keep your eye out and respond. As I mentioned Christmas is around the corner so just a heads up that our Christmas dinner will be on the second Monday in December, the 12th, at the Hawera Club. Partners, guests, past members and really everyone is welcome. We will be having a yummy Christmas-themed dinner and some entertaining games on the night. We will be running a Christmas local voucher swap again. Rebecca and I attended the BPW regional forum online last week so we will also provide an update on this at our dinner. I look forward to seeing everyone again at dinner and continuing as your President. Marissa Cope President BPW Hawera To view the full newsletter click here... Kia Ora,
It’s hard to believe it has been a year since our AGM but it has rolled around quickly again. I hope everyone has been able to get out and enjoy the spring sunshine and flowers. We sure do live in an amazing place. Toni Hunt will be running a fun activity as a kickstarter to our AGM so come with fun in your heart and an open mind. We would also love everyone to wear something pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month and we will have a donation pot available for anyone who wishers to contribute to the Breast cancer association. We have a number of incumbent committee members standing again for executive, including myself, Rebecca (secretary), Angelika (treasurer), Toni Hunt (committee member), Kay Legge (committee member) and Desiree Bond (immediate PP) but would encourage anyone interested to please nominate yourself or others (with their consent) for the executive. We want to be the best club we can be for our members so need the ideas and support from you. I know hands down I wouldn’t be able to be President with the amazing support from our executive. We had some great discussion at our last meeting about resolutions, community support options and fundraisers for our education grant which we will talk more about at the AGM. Also get your thinking caps on for how you would like to celebrate Xmas this year at BPW. On a final note I hope everyone gets a chance to visit the garden festival gardens, especially Tairoa Lodge again this year. I know I’ll be heading for lunch there during the festival so anyone want to join me let me know! See you all at AGM! Marissa Cope President BPW Hawera To view the full newsletter click here... Tena Koto Katoa/Greetings to you all,
Spring has come round again and it is hard to believe we are only a month away from our AGM in October. After a fun and fabulous meeting last month I hope you are all looking forward to heading back to the Hawera club for our September dinner. This month we will have speaker Megan Stewart speaking about her experience with St Johns (sponsored by Celine Filbee). The BPW team have also been busy organizing the Meet the Candidates night this Thursday 15th September from 6pm. If you would like to provide a donation for supper, please see Rebecca’s email or if you are available to help please get in touch ASAP. Thank you to Anita, Desiree and the organizing committee for this event which is important for us to be involved in and support our community in making informed decisions about local government. A reminder that with our AGM next month nominations need to be in for the BPW Hawera executive and also our Women’s Education Scholarship is still open for applications. Also, please keep your eye out for information about our Suffrage celebration high tea event in October. We all look forward to seeing you this month again at the Hawera Club. Welcome to August everyone! Firstly I would like to put a huge shout out to our executive who have done heaps of work and sorting this last month as I haven’t been feeling well. They are an awesome team and we are lucky to have them. We have another exciting month planned, beginning with a new dinner venue - the Hawera Club on High street. Times remain the same but dinner pricing is reducing to $35 and don’t forget to bring money for raffle or a drink and a camelia (we have 34 left to sell). I hope you are all excited to try the new venue! As it’s young BPW month make sure you encourage a younger women you know to attend with you. We have three great young women - Lisa, Rachel and Alex coming to speak on their cracker and cocktail garnish business. See more info below. We are also asking this month for you to bring a donation for our meet the candidates night supper, which will be held on 15th September at the community centre. We are hosting this event alongside the Normanby and District Lions. The event starts at 6:30 and please let us know if you can help out on the night. Supper donations can either be non perishable supper food or money. We managed to gather a great range of questions at the July meeting so it should be a stimulating night. At our August meeting we will also have BPW NZ President Christine Berridge and BPW NZ Vice President Janet Gibbs visiting. I’m sure you will give them a warm welcome and also come dressed in yellow to celebrate BPW’s birthday. Finally nominations will be open for BPW Hawera executive at the August meeting and don’t forget about our Women's education scholarship which is open now. Look forward to seeing you all on the 15th!
