Welcome to July everyone! I am helping Marissa this month as she has a lot on :) Thank you to everyone who has sent in wine orders, please keep them coming and sharing our fundraiser with your friends.
This month we have our wonderful Candle Lighting Ceremony which is a great opportunity to remember our BPW sisters from around the world and to be reminded of why BPW was created. Please bring a friend as we are also going to have a fun quiz and gather questions we would like to ask MP candidates at our Meet the Candidates night in September. Our Women’s Education Scholarship is open for applications, please share with friends and family. We have a few camelias left for $20.00 each, if you would like one please let me know and I can bring it to dinner. The opportunity to be our club's new Dinner Convenor has come up, if you are interested in this position then please let us know. August is YBPW month and our International Birthday 93 years, so remember to wear yellow for our club photo next month. Our August dinner meeting will be a bit different with our meeting being held in Stratford at the Arts Collective...but more to come about this soon. To view the newsletter click here...

Tena kotoe Katoa,
Welcome to June everyone! The heaters and fires have definitely been turned on now! This month we are celebrating World Milk day with our June guest speaker Donna Cram who was named Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year for 2023. I am sure Donna will have lots to share so please invite a friend along to join us for dinner and speaker. Our Women’s Education Scholarship will also be open for applications this month, and we are really keen to spread the word, given we did not award this last year. Our wine fundraiser will also launch this month so check your stash at home and get ready to order. With Rebecca stepping up into a national role we are also looking for help for a dinner convenor. The role involves sending out and collating the dinner invite and returned acceptance, liaising with the caterer for numbers and setting up the dinner list for hostesses. If you would like to help out the committee please let us know. Our Meet the Candidate’s night planning is coming along well, so please save the date of 28th September to either come along or help out. Also check out this post with our very own Celine Filbee, talking about the work of the Taranaki Kiwi Trusthttps://fb.watch/kZilzTPBE1/?mibextid=Nif5oz . Awesome Celine! On a final note this came up in a Linked In post for The Female Lead and is a good reminder of unconscious use of self minimising or softer language in the workplace with research suggesting women employ this more and are more likely to apologise unnecessarily too. Well what a full-packed month last month was! BPW conference, resolution reviews and Anzac Day. A big congratulations to our very own Rebecca Treeby who has been elected onto BPW national executive as Vice President - Membership. Go Rebecca! they are so lucky to have you. Also a big congratulations to us for winning the Marketting award again this year. Thank you to Anita for preparing our submission and all those involved in the Meet the Candidates night last year. You can read all about the conference, resolutions and our new Executive in Rebecca’s report attached. Thank you also to Toni and Kay for representing BPW Hawera at the Anzac Dawn service, and thank you to Angelika for creating the beautiful wreath (see pictures below). Some amazing, brave and courageous women have served in our armed forces and ancillary forces and Anzac Day is an important time to remember these trail blazers. This month we are joined by Samantha Turner, who alongside her husband runs The Grange, which won the Taranaki Ballance Farm Environment Awards. They also won several other awards, including the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Soil Management, Beef + Lamb New Zealand Livestock Farm and Taranaki Regional Council Sustainability awards. The Grange has been in the family since the1880, with the Turners striving to enhance sustainability for the benefit of future generations. Samantha is also an active member of the Hawera Repertory Society and has directed numerous successful plays. We look forward to hearing all about Sam’s professional and social life at our May (15th) dinner at the Hawera Club. As it is Mother's Day this month please feel free to bring along any special women in your lives to dinner and invite far and wide this month to any guests who may be interested in our speaker. We will aim to put up our dinner info onto Facebook for sharing. I look forward to seeing you all again this month at dinner. Hope that everyone had a lovely Easter filled with family, fun and chocolate. I am away over in Australia visiting our families after 4 years, so our lovely Toni Hunt will be hosting the April meeting. During the meeting, we will be reviewing and voting on the resolutions that will be presented at conference. Please if you can review the resolutions before the meeting and come with questions, changes or ideas on how we can support any that have not been seconded. It is important that we have resolutions voted on so our delegates know how to vote for Hawera and so that these resolutions can be carried through to advocacy with the government. For our conference we have three delegates attending, Toni, Rebecca and Vivian. Rebecca has also put her name forward for VP Membership and I know we will all wish her well in her success for this important BPW NZ position. At our April dinner Helen will also be running through our Keys to Achievement (KTA) programme and how to get involved and signed off. Thank you all who came and supported our High tea. I know we all had a lovely afternoon and we raised $208 for the women’s education scholarship fund. Angelika will be making a beautiful Anzac wreath again and prior to Anzac Day Rebecca will be putting a shout-out via email to those that would like to attend the dawn service and help lay our club wreath. Please let us know if you are keen to represent BPW. Finally just a reminder we still have Kate Sheppard Camelias for sale. Please let us know if you would like any or you can purchase at Landscape. I hope you all have a great April and a great dinner. Marissa Cope BPW Hawera Club President To view the full newsletter click here... Welcome to March everyone! As always the year is already flying by! Hope everyone is excited and booking tickets, and telling friends, colleagues, and family about our High Tea at Tairoa Lodge on 19th March. RSVPs as soon as possible please! There will be a raffle at the event to raise further funds for our scholarship with some lovely prizes.
The following day we will be having our club dinner and welcoming Fiona Aiken as our speaker, CE for South Taranaki District Council. Please see her bio below for details. Given March is a celebration of international women’s day, we hope you will either dress up for our March dinner in something international or bring something from your international travel to discuss. I hope you also have all received the membership survey from Rebecca, it will be great to get feedback so that we can continue to improve and make our club and BPW even better for members. We officially welcomed with BPW world badges two members last month Vanessa Sumpter and Anna Dunlop, with Samantha Bills also becoming a member. Unfortunately, we also said goodbye to Julie McLeod, Shelley Green and Amelie Moncel, and we wish them well and hope we see them at some time in the future. Looking forward to seeing those coming to high tea back at Tairoa or at this month's meeting. Marissa Cope President BPW Hawera To view the full newsletter click here... |
