July is the month our club comes together being part of a worldwide organisation with the Candle Lighting Ceremony. It puts into perspective that we may be a little club in Hawera but we are part of a National and International organisation. It means together we are influential and make changes for the good of women and our communities we live in. In addition to candle lighting we will also celebrate some of our members who will gain their KTA keys this month! Plus we have a guest, YBPW Alice Kibble her website is here: https://www.empower-you.co.nz/ July is also the month our Women’s second chance scholarship opens for applications. The criteria are simple, be over 21, be a South Taranaki resident and let us know how you will use the funds to assist you with your studies. Applicants do not need to be members of BPW Hawera. So spread the word. The application form is found on our BPW Hawera webpage.https://www.bpwhawera.org.nz/scholarship.htmAs some of you are aware I am completing a Global Woman Activate Leadership course. As part of the programme, we have to complete a project that creates profile for women in leadership / supports women in leadership. It must be simple and low cost. My team has started up a Reddit Community page to post valuable information for aspiring, new, and experienced women leaders in New Zealand. If you have a reddit account, please feel free to check it out (and give us a follow). More content to come!https://www.reddit.com/r/womeninleadershipnz/s/QLRH56pbSoSome of you may have spotted a Chick Flick night at the cinema in Hawera in August. I know a few from our club are attending. Be great night out.

It makes it easier for our dinner convenor, and Trish at SomeDay to plan. Please don’t feel the need to wait for the specific invite – send your acceptance or apologies in the week prior to the dinner.Tip for the month: Speech Habits and words women use (and should avoid). These tips come from a book by Tara Mohr about how women communicate – words, phrases and communication styles that can minimise and underminethemselves and what they are saying. Have a read and see if you display any of these – and how often! 1. Drop the “Just” eg “I just think” 2. Drop the “Actually” eg “I actually want to add something” 3. “Kind of” 4. “Sorry” 5. “A little bit” 6. Disclaimers 7. “Does that make sense?” 8. Uptalk (Women often raise the pitch of their voice at the end of a sentence, making it sound like a question not a statement) 9. Word piling (not being clear) 10. Substituting a question for a statement To view the whole newsletter click here...
